Interlocking Clay Double Pantile - Greater Manchester

Clay Double Pantiles Win the Day

The Challenge
Homeowner Glen needed to re-roof his post-war semi-detached property as part of a major refurbishment project.

Due to budgeting constraints he took on most of the work himself with more than a little help from his joiner father, Jimmy.

Glen had noticed how new concrete roofs can soon be affected by surface deterioration and wanted to source a tile that would meet his needs in terms of appearance, durability and price.

The Solution
Glen decided to visit his local roofers' merchant Henshaws Roofing Supplies in the North West. Here he saw a display of New generation clay tiles, an experience, which was to change his perception of roof tiles forever.

The friendly knowledgeable staff provided him with additional information revealing the benefits of clay, in particular the Clay Double Pantile. This pantile is a large format tile providing all the benefits that clay has to offer.

Glen commented, 'After visiting Henshaws I was confident that this product would suit my needs. It is eco friendly, lighter than concrete yet stronger and more durable with a 60-year guarantee.'

The green issue was important to Glen and the Clay Double Pantile which was chosen allowed him to follow his beliefs in giving consideration for the environment working for a greener future.

The clay for the Double Pantile is sourced within 1km of the factory, is made from 100% green electricity and comes from a manufacturer who has reduced their C02 emissions by 25% year on year.

The amount of C02 generated in manufacture, supply and installation of new generation clay tiles is significantly less than concrete or clay plain tiles.

'The tile met all of my criteria, but I had some concerns over affordability' continues Glen. 'However after speaking to Henshaws my queries were soon addressed'.

Warren Nazarowicz at Henshaws says 'we advised Glen that the extra cost of using a clay tile over a large format concrete tile would be around £300'. Compared to a clay plain tile he would achieve a saving of approximately 50%. At a coverage of 10.2 per m2 this tile is the most cost-effective profile clay tile available in the UK.

Henshaws Roofing supplies also recommended M.Mcgloin, roofing contractors who had experience of laying new generation tiles. They would advise Glen and showed him examples of other jobs they had completed.

The Outcome

Glen commented; 'With the support and direction given by Henshaws, my property has been significantly enhanced, not just for now but for years to come.

By using clay, I know that the colour and overall appearance of the roof will be effectively maintained.

By using the Clay Double Pantile I have achieved an affordable, natural clay roof that has been quick and easy to install.

I'm very pleased with the end result and certain I made the right decision choosing these tiles.'
