Have you spotted a patch of moss on your roof that you don’t like? Before I explain how to rid your roof of moss, I should point out that there is every chance that it will have little to no impact on the function of your roof and roof tiles; however, it could possibly affect the flow of water to guttering systems which could create water damage long term. If you do have problems caused by moss or you’d just rather have a cleaner roof, there are three ways you can remove the moss. These are as follows:
- Toxic washing – This is a job best left to professionals as you may have guessed it, it involves toxic chemicals which are potentially harmful. It takes a couple of days to make a difference and is best to apply in dry weather, but tends to be effective despite being relatively cheap.
-
Copper Wiring – This method is more permanent and involved trailing copper wires across the roof tiles. They can be used in densely affected areas or across the whole roof and work with every rainfall (something that makes them perfect for our British climate!). Again, we would recommend that this is best left to the professionals!
-
Scraping – Exactly as it says on the tin, this method involves literally scraping the tiles however, it is generally not recommended as it can leave permanent scarring on your tiles and offers no long term benefits. Again, if this is the route you would like to go down, please hire a professional!
